» Heavy Metal Thunder

A not quite comprehensive look at Heavy Metal album cover art from the dawn of the Iommi-Osbourne pact through the death of numetal. It falls short on covers from the last 5 years but the old stuff (especially from the margins) is fantastic. Split up into categories with a few interviews, this book is a must have for anyone into metal and illustrative art. (link)

» Pearl Izumi Amfib Lobster Gloves

I ride my bike almost everywhere I go year round. In the winter months on the Westside bike path it can get pretty brutal especially on your hands. Heavy duty warm gloves are essential. While the Pearl Izumi Amfib Lobster gloves look bonkers they keep your fingers especially warm by allowing your fingers to stay together to collect heat. The mid hand split for gear and brake articulation, the velcro wrist clasp and the textured palm make this an incredibly high quality addition to any winter ensemble. Whether you're someone who suits up in hot pink striped spandex and an aerodynamic helmet to take on the road or a fixed gear crusty ass sticking it to the man these gloves will keep your digits toasty. » Noginsox Bike Helmet Covers

Speaking of bonkers looking, while searching for a viking styled bike helmet I came across this. It fits over most any helmet and comes with or without lights coming out of the spikes. Equal parts Nickelodeon and Headbangers Ball I think I gotta have one. Also take a look at the brain and lizard models. (link)

gift

» Soviet Propaganda Cartoons

What were the Marxist kids watching while we were given Bugs Bunny, Tom and Jerry and Mickey Mouse? Cartoons made by the state to promote Communist ideology of course. This fascinating compilation covers cartoons from all eras of the Soviet Empire. The styles are incredibly idiosyncratic, the stories hilariously Anti-American (Evidently we all wear around Tuxedos, smoke cigars and listen to terrible Jazz music.) and the pride for the working man ennobling. The documentaries about the cartoons are a little too heavy handedly anticommunist but the cartoons themselves make up for it. (link)

A watch named after one of the greatest bands ever (or one of the greatest flight disasters, your call) better live up to the name, and the latest in the Vestal collection does just that.
