» Spooky Calendar 2008

I usually really hate calendars but this is one by Die Gestlaten Verlag is super cool. It's a flippable poster if looking up the date du jour is not your thing. First of all it is byweekly and second of all it is loaded with killing graphics and glow in the dark ink there to spook you out during the night. Misleadingly sweet by day, the cute monsters are transformed by the lack of light in ghastly glowing spirits revealing their scary side. Every two weeks a new large-format page will send delightful shivers down your spine. Cool stuff! (link)

» Korg Mini Kaos Pad

Doesn't matter if you are an aspiring DJ or not. As long as you like anything even vaguely electronic, you are going to love this thing. Battery or power line operated, it connects easily to any music playing device and to any line-out. Right in the middle between the two digital ends of the line, you and your finger on a touch pad. Choose between one of the 100 available effets(they are all in real time) or opt for one of the special sound filters: then play around, experiment and create a better tune than the one you already loved. All this just by gliding your finger on the touch pad, nothing more. A great synth machine at your fingertips, really! (link)

» Paper Chase Monstarz Design Series

For me it is all about monsters: yes, maybe a bit passee' already as a theme but still going strong and I think it will be so in 2008 as well. So strong that in fact the large distribution is digging into this theme that previously was a strictly graphic afecionados niche. Bad sign I suppose: once it gets to the masses, usually the cool afecionados (right now screaming: "what are you writing??? you should not condone massification of intellectually snob coolness!") move on abandoning their brain children to the brutal prostitution of super markets and department stores. Well, nothing we have not seen before I suppose. Anyway, the Paper Chase (Britain-wide stationary chain) interpretation of cool monsters is not too bad and not to far from the original. These are pretty much a cross over between Friends With You and Ugly Dolls, just a lot more affordable: you can buy the actual toy or go for the lunch box, the plastic folder, the letter set, party invite, iPod cover, aluminium bottle OR the super cool pet bowl. Get me anything and I'll be happy. (link)

» b0b Creature by Waynesdesk

For when I need a friend. This one even has clearly identifiable eyes so you can talk to him while he does all the cool stuff: lights on and off, movement and such. Perfect for your long lost mate who moved to Antartica or for you to remeber him everyday. Just be careful not to squash b0b under the ton of leaning paper tower on your desh, just in case it works like a Voodoo doll as well. b0b is sweet and friendly: love him and he will flash back at you. » Dynomighty Tyvek Wallet

Because I hope to receive so much cash for Christmas that I will need a new one (and ok, my old one is really falling apart). This almost-paper-yet -plastc wallet, which you have likely seen before, it pretty sweet and even water and sweat proof. my favourite designs are the envelope, the journal and the matrix numbers with the first 3000 digits of Pi: this last one is super nerdy and this is why I love it. Made of 25 % recycled material and no stiching, it is sweet, durable and holds all that money magically flying in for Xmas. (link)

gift

» Stash DVD Magazine Subscription

Stash has moved considerandly on the side of cool, curvy graphic animation and this makes this monthly DVD magazine even more appealing. The monthyl DVD will keep your brain overfed but addicted and craving for more. The 40-page companion book of color stills, editorials, links perfectly completes each issue. Warning! A long exposure can seriously damage self esteem level of any arty type: beware! (link)

gift

» Food is Art Prince Charles Portrait

Damien Hirst himself commissioned the cool Chocolate Skull to Food Is Art: this glittery skull is a great candy, especially if you feel like killing Santas around town. Originally thought for Halloween it is really perfect for Christmas on the gold, silver and bronze edible glitter. However, I think that a classy portrait is a much better option as a Christmas present than a skull and so I would love to receive this solid chocolate portrait of Prince Charles. Perfect for hanging on top of the fireplace (golden chocolate edible frame included!) and feel like royalty (beware, the chocolate melts!). (link)

gift

» Atypyk Gold Plated Teeth

Ghetto style but honestly funny pendant. Useful to remind yourself not to dive too deep in Prince Charles sweet face or if you, like me, just had a wisdom tooth removed. (link)

gift

» Nooka Zub Zot 38 TWP

I really like Nooka watches: they look super futuristic and the smooth silicone material and chunky shape is just cool. Only problem? They are so futuristic I amr eally having problems reading the time. I read enough to be able, after a few minutes of intense thinking, to read the time on the Zub models but the others... well, I am not asking for any of them this Christmas! Purple seems girly and loud enough but it comes in a dozen colours to meet any taste. Check out the cool collaboration they have ongoing: Shin Tanaka, my favourite paper folder, has designed a paper Nooka toy for you to print, assemble and finally customize as you like. It surely can make for a nice matching Christmas card! (link)

gift

» Skeleton Keys

These are to keep the keys of the Chalet in the Alps that I am getting as my main present (did you get it? someone else is getting me the chalet, so don't buy me one! You can still buy me the Ferrari though). Perfect to remember how to enter in the house, they even glow in the dark to make it even easier. Love this simple but great set. (link)

gift

» Pillos

Cool pillows with all sort of funky inspiration: retro stereo, gun, guitar, magic mushroom... why not? they look cool and they do (oh yes, they do!) serve a purpouse! (link)

gift

» Domo Kun Bank

You LOVE Domo, don't you? I surely do. It is so mean! Yes, sure there are USB sticks and plush toys of all sizes done to resemble his scultoreous model-like body, but the coin bank is by far a smarter one, innit? (link)

gift

» Stack The Bones Jenga

Ages since you played this one last, right? Here it comes again, just a lot meaner and cooler with a skeleton worth of bones to move without making the top skull fall. Same old fun, new cool idea. (link)
