gift

» The Organic Chair by Vitra

The end to my year-long quest for the perfect desk chair has come to an end with the discovery of "The Organic Chair". Unfortunately, the historically significant, yet thoroughly modern seat shall never grace my ample bottom as I type, type away. What, afterall, would the holidays be without fantasy? (link)

gift

» Artwork by Jesse Brown

I love it when I discover new artists first (and by first I mean before anyone else whom I conversate with on a regular basis). Jesse Brown is my newest discovery. Equal parts Cody Hudson, Parra and Japanese Plasti-Pop, Jesse creates paintings that look like prints. He's precise yet carefree, whimsical yet structured, and he just might be my favorite discovery of 07. (link)

gift

» No One Belongs Here More Than You by Miranda July

As much as I hate performance art, I'm also the biggest Miranda July fan girl ever. There's something special about her huge blank eyes and spacey disposition. If I could wake up tomorrow looking like someone else, I'd hands-down choose Miranda July. Girl crush aside, I immediately fell in love with the promo site for her book "No One Belongs Here More Than You". A brilliantly innovative, but completely lo-fi piece of the internet. But alas, I have yet to actually read the well-reviewed collection of July's short stories. (link)

» Jonathan Adler Pillows

Jonathan Adler's tounge-in-cheek aesthetic always keeps me coming back for more. I could wander around his Chicago store for hours pretending I was the live-in maid for Adler, his partner, legendary Barney's window dresser Simon Doonan, and their terrier, Liberace. We would have tea parties with pink elephant cups atop a green lacquered table in a Hollywood Regency styled paradise. I digress, these pillows perfectly sum up Adler's cheeky aesthetic of bold statements, vibrant colors and a nod to the crafts of decades past. (link)

» Horn Section Jacket

It gets mighty cold here in Chicago and I start every winter with the goal of obtaining the ultimate stylish winter coat that will combat the dreaded Stay-Puff Marshmallow Girl syndrome that never fails to rear its ugly head once the thermometer drops below 10 degrees. I love the formality and detailing of this coat. It's like Little Not-So-Red Riding Hood meets Buckingham Palace, and I am absolutely coveting it for this winter. (link)

gift

Cheese of the Month Club
I'm too cheap to buy anything but Cabot Extra Sharp for myself, so it would be ridiculously self-indulgent to eat a different wicked fancy cheese every month. (link)

gift

Freaks and Geeks: The Complete Series
I've been fawning over this for maybe three consecutive Christmases. Best coming-of-age show ever. (link)

gift

Antler Sweater
I'm not usually a fan of J. Crew, but this would make my year. And it's cashmere. (link)

gift

Sleepy Pig
Some things you just like, despite their having no usefulness. Like this little buddy. (link)

gift

Japanese Heat-Shaped Hand Warmer
I'm gonna need a bushel of these things, since I'm going to be in Iceland for New Year's. (link)
